The LADWP has announced a large-scale solar project in the Encino Hills. The project includes:
Construction is expected to take one year. Because the reservoir is in the middle of a densely populated residential area and near popular hiking and biking trails, the impact on residents and outdoor enthusiasts could be significant.
This map shows where equipment related to this project will be installed.

There are many potential pros and cons to this project, which will generate enough clean energy to power nearly 2,700 homes per year and reduce water evaporation.
However, LADWP seeks to fast-track this with a Mitigated Negative Declaration instead of conducting a full Environmental Impact Report — and this expedited process also has pros and cons.
The deadline for public comment is January 13.
On December 18 at 7:00pm the Encino Neighborhood Council Public Safety Committee will host a special meeting on Zoom, featuring a presentation from the LADWP followed by a Q&A session where residents can also give their feedback.
